This tune might be well known to many, but it was a new one on me until I came across a sweet version by Nick Hornbuckle and Annie Staninec (fiddle). They play it in A, but I have no idea what tuning he was using so I set it in D, which changed the feel of the tune considerably.
Played here on my modified C/D ODE with a woody tone ring.

That's beautiful! Nick and Annie are always inspirational. The version I learned from was a Virginian fiddler named Albert Hash. Then there's a Wade Jarvis recording on Slippery Hill credited to Curly Ray Cline as composer. Art Stamper fiddled it, too. Really, it wants to be a Tune of the Week on the old-time forum. Glad you shared it here.
