A quick update some 96 hours after surgery! I feel great! There's been no pain at all from the surgery and I'm now taking Advil and Tylenol for pain and swelling management. This really feels miraculous! I will have my hard cast removed in ten days, followed by two weeks in a plastic-mold type cast. And I'm hoping that I'll be good to go with my left hand after that! Just utterly amazing. Thanks to all of you for your support and for everyone who is considering this surgery, I strongly urge you to move forward with talking to your doctors about this option. My surgical method again is called Dual Mobility Trapeziometacarpal Arthoplasty. I'll provide an update in about ten days - but thank you once again. You have filled our home with your love.

I am so thankful and grateful for all of your support and friendship these last two weeks. I have heard from so many of you who are living with the same CMC thumb joint issues and I'm really overjoyed to provide this update. My soft cast was removed on Wednesday, just two weeks after the procedure, and I'm wearing a canvas splint to help support and strengthen the thumb joint and hand. *I played banjo on Wednesday!* This picture says it all, as you can see the titanium ball and socket insert. With the cast now removed, I'm experiencing some strechy but very tolerable kind of pain as I do some simple therapy exercises but my surgeon tells me that I should be 100% in two to four weeks if I don't move too quickly through this part of the healing process.
Babi and I learned from a nurse and an OT at UVa that I was only the seventh or eighth patient to receive this new procedure in Charlottesville. As Alan Munde noted, "Well, it's better than being either the first or the last."
Only a handful of medical facilities in the US are offering this procedure, by the way.
I'm feeling so thankful for all of you. And thanking God for his blessings.
