Hi everyone!
I have a question about removing tuner buttons. I have a set of planetary Gotohs which are probably about 10-15 years old. I want to change the tuner buttons (for aesthetic reasons… my banjo is very vain).

A couple of the buttons came off with (what I would consider) a reasonable amount of force, whilst a couple just refused to budge. I could probably get them off with a bit more force, but I felt I should consult the banjo elders first - that’s you guys. Any tips?

I had thought maybe half an hour in the freezer might help, but I don’t want to be the idiot that broke a set of tuners by freezing them without first seeking adequate counsel.

Thanks for your help!

Carefully heat the button with a hairdryer on low. When warm, you should be able to remove it. Shield the neck from the heated air stream.
