I'm trying to increase my picking speed and came across a video of Geoff Hohwald who showed his method for that practice. He also showed a copy of a book he had written about the subject. I'm wondering if there are any other pickers out there who have banjo books around they don't use any more and would be willing to sell them at a "reduced" price. Shipping of course would also be part of the purchase.

I've got a lot of used books and some that look new and I might be willing to just give them to you if you pay the postage. What kind of books are you looking for. Most of mine are bluegrass instruction books some from 10-20 years ago. Let me know what genre of books you want and I'll send you a list of what I have that I want to part with.

Thanks Sherry. I've been playing in jams and have even gotten involved with 3 other fellas who are playing at senior centers (despite each of us is over 70). Anyway I'm always being introduced to songs I'm not familiar with or are not strictly bluegrass and so I struggle to play a solo/lead when offered. So of the songs are bluegrass, however one of the fellows who does most of the singing is doing it in the key of "E" and while I can capo the neck I certainly loose a lot of real estate by doing that. So I guess what I'm looking for is books on how to improvise or make up a solo. I hope that helps and I would gladly pay the shipping!

If you want to learn to make your own solos, check out Janet Davis' Up the Neck and Splittin' the Licks. Unfortunately, those two books I will not part with.

I think my local library has one or both of those so I'll check them out.  If you want to send me a list of your other books I would appreciate it.
