While I understand that rehab is for quitters... ;0)
I would like to hear from folks that have gone through these things.. n thier exspierances..with them..
The reason is..I have met a fellow here who is a good guy..but clearly needs help that I am not qualified for...
I would like to learn about programs before I offer a helping hand to him..
Or...
Am I barking up the wrong tree?..
As i can not force folks to get help..
Thankyou in advance for any input.
What type of rehab center? Physical, mental? Makes a difference. Drug related?
We have rehab centers for all the above and from what I've heard and seen, they can do a lot of good IF the patient is willing to put in the time, effort and work. If not, then all the rehab in the world isn't going to do much good.
I went to rehab to quit alcohol and prescription drugs - it’s true that forcing someone to go doesn’t usually work ; the person has to want to quit , at least somewhat,, it’s tricky. But the seed can be planted - later on the person knows what to do ,, where to go, if they hit bottom. Free AA or NA daily meetings are everywhere ,, I recommend them.
AA and NA are twelve step programs that incorporate the acknowledgement of a "Higher Power". Virtually all similar programs with decent success rates are based on acknowledgement of God or a "Higher Power". My family supports one of the most successful rehab centers in our state. Christianity is a central part of this program. I have heard cynics say that these folks just trade their dependence on drugs and/or alcohol for a dependence on God. To this I answer, "Yes, of course. What's your point?"
Long story short, I would strongly suggest you consider programs that:
1.) Require abstinence as a condition of participation.
2.) Provide group housing w/ daily meetings and accountability.
3.) Have a program that centers on Christianity.
I will pray for your friend.

Sorry...good point TB...
Alcohol..in this case..
I've no direct experience, but I've read that this outfit has a good success rate. https://www.bruceoakerecoverycentre.ca/
I assume other facilities use a similar approach. Whatever works, I figure.
What often gets addicts’ attention , besides the constant chaos in their lives, is a friend or family member saying they’re worried about them and that they’re breaking loved ones’ hearts.
p.s., AA is not strictly a Christian organization - it's for all Faiths or not any particular Faith at all. I know atheists who are in AA ,, their Higher Power is the power of the group and its ramifications. (mob rule, if you will ;-)
