I lay this one on government regulators. Airlines do not want to carry any baggage--let alone musical instruments. Without a gov't requirement of proper handling,  this is what happens.

C'mon Bill......more government regulations / requirements ?

How's about some baggage handlers with a little bit of personal pride, and a work ethic ?

All these guitars on the same flight?

Why are they going on the ground instead of onto a ramp to the baggage hold or to the baggage delivery system?   They'll have to be handled twice now -- picked up and put somewhere else.

Anyone think this was staged?

Dunno whether it adds to or detracts from.... you can click on "more" and get to what's purportedly a NYPost article: Read more at https://nypost.com/2026/03/24/lifesty...

New York Post??!!!

That explains it.  I can picture the headline on the front page:

"UFO sneaks guitar cases containing dead bodies of headless Martians into airport baggage cart. "

Also every single case looks brand new. This looks super fake

Made me thinknit was an AI generated video. AI has made me very skeptical

The video was posted on X by a college student. NY Post and others picked up the story (including the ABC affiliate in LA), as it generated millions of views. (That's journalism today - look for what video is trending, write a short article, have somebody who wasn't there give a comment, and then report on what some other people tweet ).

I like the AI skepticism these days, but I don't see any evidence that this is fake. The skies are not friendly for instruments. Of course, neither is UPS or FedEx based on recent experiences some of our members have had.

How does one explain all these many guitar cases in one baggage cart, coming from or going to the one, same flight?

I like the AS  (Artificial Stupidity) smiley explanation.

I agree. I think it is difficult to imagine all these different guitar cases in one baggage cart. It may be a chartered flight by Guitarists USA or similar, but it seems unlikely with so many guitars. It is more likely that it is AI generated fake video.

Below is a link to a story in the New York Times that supports Bill Rogers' assessment of the root cause of the problem.  The New York Post video might be a product of "Artificial Ignorance", but that doesn't mean that this is not a common occurrence.

This Is Why Flying Is So Awful

For a dozen years I flew from the Midwest to San Juan, PR and back three times a year and checked my guitar in an SKB hard case for the trip. The last four I've checked it to Palm Springs, California and back every January. Not only has it always arrived in one piece, only once has another guitar besides mine come out on the carousel. Five guitars, I don't think so.

The CBS station in LA did a follow up piece, interviewing the guy who posted it.  It's good to be suspicious of everything posted these days, but I think this is real.

I don't know, it still seems a little unreal that there were nine guitars in there to throw on the ground so he could pick them up again. I watched the video and the reporter was just walking around the airport showing people the video and getting their reactions, which were predictably, oh that's bad. And that ten second segment from the kid who supposedly recorded it. It might be more convincing if she tracked down the owners of the guitars and got them to talk about it. Anyway, I'm still skeptical. I guess I was just born skeptical and I'm even more so with YouTube.
