I've posted 4 times in the topic "Rhythm in opening bar of cripple creek."  Initially, all appear to be posted OK, because I can scroll down through the thread and see them.   But later on when I return to the topic, 2 of them have disappeared.

No "There has been a problem! " messages (which are getting more frequent in recent months).

What might be going on here?

I get e-mail notices of new posts in a thread I've subscribed to. Once in a while, there is no post corresponding to the e-mail notice, which includes the name of the poster.

I only see 2 posts by you in that topic. Perhaps you didn't save the message and thought you did? Maybe there's a glitch in the system. It's something Eric will have to look into as we mods don't have the authority and/or ability to check for glitches and such.

Once in a fairly long while I've had posts disappear. I just figure that even though I didn't see anything offensive or questionable, somebody else probably did.  C'est la vie??

Sometimes if I take time and "craft" a post, and select my words with great discretion, and then POOF! I took too long. Then I throw my hands up and say things out loud. But never do I reply again. Because it's gone. Gone

Gone, I say

"Maybe there's a glitch in the system."

Exactly.  Want to bring that to someone's attention.

There are several glitches in the system, particularly with posting in the last several months.  The others provide some indication that the system is not working right, and one can improvise a work-around.  This is the first time that everything looked OK and I saw the post in the thread, but later it was no longer there.

Just for everyone's information: we mods have not deleted any posts, so that's not the problem. A system glitch sounds more likely. Again, something Eric has to handle as we mods don't have the authority to do so.

Hmmm... that's an odd problem. If you saw your posts in the thread, that means they're saved to the database, and wouldn't go away without a manual deletion. I'll have to look into it more...

Administrator and moderators:

Thanks.  Once, could be my error.  Twice, doubtful it was my error.

Computer programs don't always work the way they are supposed to work.  Can call them idiosyncrasies of the system.  Here are a few other ones -- which I'm not complaining about now because there are work-arounds.

--  Hit post, and it gets stuck and doesn't post.  Work around is to copy the posted text, get out of the thread, go back into the thread, and try posting again, pasting in the previous text.

-- "There has been a problem" Won't allow a post.  Work around is to copy the posted text as a back-up, go back, switch from Rich Text to Plain Text, and post again in Plain Text.  Sometimes this works.  Then edit the Plain Text posting, and switch from Plain Text to Rich Text, and re-do the Rich Text.

-- "There has been a problem"  Won't allow a post.  Won't post in Plain Text.  Work around is to copy the posted text, get out of the thread, go back into the thread, post in Plain Text, then edit the Plain Text posting, switch from Plain Text to Rich Text, and re-do the Rich Text.

One difficulty in switching from Plain Text back to Rich Text is that then the indentation in Rich Text most of the time no longer can be applied to separate paragraphs but rather indents the entire message, which obviates the benefit of indenting.

First got the  "There has been a problem" message several months ago.  Before that, had never seen.  Seems to be more prevalent if I use text modifiers such as bold, italic, indentation, smiley faces -- can't tell exactly what triggers it.

Hope this all helps.  Back in the olden days I used to do system design and programming, and realize that nothing is perfect with complicated systems, but some errors may never be seen until some odd and rare combination of events occurs.

And, yes, I've paid the internet bill and am not hallucinating from pain killing medication.  smiley

Thanks.

There has been a problem!

An error occurred in posting your entry. Please contact us if the issue persists.

Go back to correct the problem.

Could not work around this one.  I'm suspecting that the use of some combination of special characters and indentation are correlated with the "There has been a problem!" message.

If the "problem" were identified, I could  go back to correct it.

Anone else getting the "problem" message?

For me it occasionally happens when I try to post a "link"  .... some links will post directly, with copy/paste, and some require that I use the link icon ^^ [across the top of my box of text].

I don't know the whys and wherefores.  sad
