Sadly (?) we'll probably not be following the ^^ advice ..... but, but, but, I'll go on record as saying that at least they're better'n fruit cakes. 
No fruitcakes on the prairies, I’d say….
I think pound cakes are very tasty and also easy to make. You can add different ingredients to give them a different taste; i.e., fresh fruit, nuts, berries, etc. And you can always frost them in various flavors of icings.
I don't do icing, so pound cakes are among my favorite cakes. Mom made a version called a "Seven Up Cake" that was popular for awhile in the 70s.
