I’m trying to find out more about this banjo… what I know, it’s fretless, has a metal fretboard, an all metal pot, appears to be a 7 string, I’m thinking maybe English maybe before 1900. Anyone have more to add? I would like to pin it down. Make and approximate Date?
Most likely English. A lot of similar models turn up pretty regularly here in the UK. The oblong rim brackets, hooks and nuts could be imported from the US or UK copies. Over the years I've seen different size oblong brackets, hook threads and square nuts. I'd guess these were circa 1880. Unless stamped putting a name to them is pretty impossible. A number of English makers used metal rims. Attached photos of similar example with a wood lined hoop.
Yes, very similar and as it just arrived this evening, I can confirm, there is no name stamped anywhere. It has a 12 inch head so is the largest pot in my collection! And you say these are around 1880's. Thanks for the information. I'm not too familiar with early English banjos but I'm learning and I now have 2. Again, thanks!
