.... On our Access TV we currently have a music festival from Roche Percee, a village in S. E. Sask.
The music seems a typical (?) mix of country and old tyme and as is also common there's a busy dance floor; pretty much all adults and/or older adults. It didn't take long before I noticed that it's just about all tall(er) relatively slim people... musicians and dancers alike.... very noticeable. There might be a slightly higher proportion of cowboy hats/boots than one sees at other festivals around here, but it has me wondering if it could be "something in the water"??
And something I've never seen before .... at one point the sax player set his sax aside, blew up a rubber glove and appeared to be playing bass (?) by stretching/releasing/snapping the fingers of the glove. I couldn't hear it separate from the other instruments, but he was keeping in time and appeared to be repeating a pattern. A cursory Google search came up empty. What gives?
[It's a slow day here in Russell.

I dunno ... being unfamiliar with MCB, I cued up a George Strait version on Youtube. It doesn't ring a bell [not even a cowbell
]. I just have to take it as Westman cable broadcasts it, so dunno when it might next roll around.
I noticed that the guy operating the camera is the same one who also does some other jams in our area, though lately it's been somewhat less frequent [winter? driving in the dark? not enough pay?]. However, when I next see him I intend to ask him about the tall/slim ... fwiw, the round drum looks as round as any; I don't see any distortion (?).

Not necessarily ... it's just that there are two parts to the OP: a) tall(er)/slim(er) dancers, and b) rubber glove.
I just lumped the part about the round drum in there in my last post ^^ rather than a separate post ... thought it might eliminate one possibility in a).
[But, but, but, I did consider separating the two parts of my last post ^^ with a line of ===================== . Maybe next time??

Ok, so since the round drum looks round and not distorted, this then leads to your conclusion that people in Roche Percee are wolfing down bennies to stay slim. Interesting….
I'm thinkin' this might be the hall/building where these shenanigans take place....
furthermore, on a nastalgic personal note, I passed the road sign for Roche Percee many times , it being just north of the border/bordre crossing at Portal, ND and North Portal, SK. If hauling pork out of the Brandon Maple Leaf plant I'd stop in at the meat inspection building in Portal and then head for Stockton, CA or other distant destinations.

Geez Chuck, yer giving me flashbacks. Several years ago I'd posted that I thought the US would be well-served by a comprehensive immigration policy. One of BHO's shining lights [cough, hack, cough] somehow twisted that into / accused me of being okay with children being murdered. ![]()
The festival was in June of 2023. I haven't found reference to it on Google... the building looks to me to be a pole-shed style building with slabs and/or tarps strategically hung for protection from the sun/wind/??. The dance floor looked to be quite adequate.

I couldn't see any connection either, but that didn't dissuade the "shining light," who naturally enough had no "explanation" either.
The flashback (?) is that I see a parallel in: "... [my] conclusion that people in Roche Percee are wolfing down bennies to stay slim."
But, but, but, It's not limited to the people of Roche Percee ... at one point I heard the MC acknowledge performers from Moose Jaw, St. Lazare and several points between.
We are getting a lot of TV ads about visiting Manitoba. Photos of flat land, polar bears, and bison the size of a Freightliner. You better get ready for a hoard of hippy dippy weirdos from the wet coast and other hidden ghettos of Canada. Sometimes we get ads from the Northwest Territories. Is there a difference ? Many will say that the coldest spot is Winnipeg.

1968, on a Greyhound bus, coming out of the miles & miles of Ontario and far eastern Manitoba forest, we suddenly seemed to burst into the ultra-flat , almost treeless prairie land, somewhere near Ste. Anne..... darn near had me drooling and gaping in awe.

At the age of 26 I had not seen the prairies since I was 6. The porter on the train came to our bunk around 6:00 AM and whispered that we had to get up because we were about to pass Bigger and our Saskatoon destination was only about 90 minutes away. I looked out the window and it looked like we had ended up on a massive billiard table.
