Had to go to the hospitol...Liz drove me there...
We enter...
We get searched...
Liz Had a 1 inch pen knife...in her purse...
They confiscated it on the spot..
It was a $50.00 Gerber mini folding pen knife...
I do not mind that they will hold it for you while you are in the building..
N return it when you leave...
But no..
They siezed it n now own it...
That is B.S. ....
I bet there are a lot of Security Folks that have a lot of nice knives..
Imo ...out right thieft the Hospitol permits....
They can bag it tag it n return it...
Are there signs at the entrance that warn you not to bring anything that might be used as a weapon such as knives, guns, hammers, etc.? If not, then you might have a right to have your item returned. I'd report it to the police and if they wouldn't do anything, I'd call a lawyer and ask him his thoughts and see if he could give the hospital a call or a letter or something. Might not work, but is worth a try.
About a week ago CBC radio aired a blurb about Winnipeg's hospitals installing/using some sort of AI imaging.... I think they said they'd "hold" it for you and you could pick it up on leaving. [No mention was made on how illegal "weapons" would be handled.]
I carry this bad boy [3" blade??] around .... left over from my farming days, I suppose .... I figure I never know when I might come across a guy needing to cut the twine on a bale. I think mine's a Princess Auto* heirloom, but I'd still be mucho pizzed ... I replaced the wood with some from a Saskatoon bush we'd removed from our backyard .... so now I guess it has some real sentimental value.
So far, I've been in/out of several hospitals and nobody's said "Boo!" I think the only times I leave it behind are for flights and funerals/weddings [i.e. not wearing my bib overalls].
* Harbor Freight to youse guys .... but whatever alloy it's made of, it holds an edge quite well. ![]()

I had a small 3 inch jacknife in my pocket & not thinking I had to go into the USA Embassy in Vancouver back in 2010 to pick up my B1B2 visa …duh,,,, you guessed it,,”empty yer pockets, mister,, errr, get rid of that knife, NOW!” I threw it over the railing onto the grass lawn; they let me in anyway.

I got caught with this exact knife back in 7th grade. Principal took it and I got it back at the end of the school day. Still rode home with it on the bus!

The only thing that can stop a bad man with a harmonica is a good man with a kazoo.
I too was robbed of a Gerber mini-fold-up pocket knife (with mini-scissors, pliers, etc) when me and son went to the Edmonton Cdn Finals Rodeo.
There was no x-ray......just a beeping alarm.
I'm old and have knee replacements - next time I'll duct tape my key ring to one of my knees inside my darn pants leg.
Same thing happened to me. I had a life long childhood pocket knife on my key ring for nearly 50 years. It even went through several post 911 airline flights without question. Then it got confiscated at a rock concert. The folks were total dicks about it. No returns. Never see it again. Either Leave, or fork it over. And it was all my fault for failure to read the signs before trying to enter the venue. We had paid to park, walked a mile, and been in line for an hour before we even got to the stupid signs. The last such event we’ve been to, and no plans to ever go to the venue again.
only time i had it happen to me was years ago.. i had to go to court and mistakenly walked into the federal court house and the alarm went off.. these 2 big ole boys come up and said ok put your hands up.... frisk me and found my case pocket knife.. took it away .. told me that no type of weapon allowed.. i believed them too.
i told what i was looking for ..one laughed and said you in the wrong building.. great do i get my knife back? he said yeah come on... he walked me out handed to me and said.. put in your car before you go into the county court house !!!
My wife and I visited my daughter in Washington last year and were going to several landmarks, including the Library of Congress and a couple of the Smithsonian venues. We waited in line at the Library of Congress for about a hlf hour and when we got close to the entrance we say the sign. I always carry a $250 Zero Tolerance knife and I was not about to let anyone take it, so I skipped out of line real quick and found a flower pot (if I remember correctly) that was on a high pedestal. I just dropped the knife just over the edge and got back in line. When we came out it was still there.
When we went into the Smithsonian I did the same thing, but when we left I forgot to get my knife. A couple of hours later, after we got to my daughter's condo, we took her car as she only lives a couple of miles from the building, and she let me off in front where I walked up to the flower pot and retrieved my knife! I have done this same routine many a time, always finding a good hiding spot and usually taking a photo with my phone to remind me where I left it.
Stud Figmo Al,
It could be that something about you made you look suspicious. That seems to be happening a lot today. People who look a certain way are being pulled off the street and sent to detention centers. It appears to be related to some new understanding of the term "probable cause" that's mentioned in the US Constitution. Don't forget to vote in November.
