I'm building a 5 string guitar project for someone, 25.5" scale.

I think it's going to require Ball End, Med. Gauge Phosphor Bronze Strings.

Who Makes em? I can only find lights. Must have unwound 3rd so guitar string sets likely won't work.

GHS and D'Addario both make ball end strings in Phosphor Bronze but neither one sells them in medium gauge sets. You could buy singles and make up sets like I do.
GHS makes a set that are called light gauge, but they are a little heavier than normal lights. They come with a nickel wound fourth string. I suppose you could swap the fourth string for a bronze one. That's the closest suggestions I can find.
I don't know about Mapes or any of the other makers because I haven't had to shop for strings for quite a while. I bought a huge order before Just Strings went out of business.

GHS has a sale of single strings at 15% off until the end of the month. Check them out and make up the sets you want.

“Medium” means different things to different makers. Please post the gauges that you are looking for—whole set.

D’Addario and StringJoy allow dealers to make custom sets including custom winds with no upcharge and no minimum. Just don’t be in a hurry. AMB has this service at the retail level, too.

Ok, who needs a custom wind? With banjo, that’s rare unless you’re a long neck player who uses a wound 3rd (guilty) but a custom length bronze with a ball might qualify. Again, need to know the gauges involved.

Support your local dealer if you have one but I can help if you don't.
