Well not really ...... but kinda!
Some here may have read that my Tahoe is getting a new transmission ...... old one shot! About a month and a half ago I went to my local VA (Veterans Administration) clinic to see about hearing aids. I signed up for the VA several years ago but have never used them for anything ........... 3 years Active duty and 17 years Reserve duty in the Marines. I thought that since I need new hearing aids I would finally let them pay for something, so I went by my local clinic (very nice facility incidentally) and the Audiology Department told me they did not have an appointment until April, but if I wanted I could see a "Community Care" provider, all paid for by the VA. After a month and a half I got my appointment with a local provider (a mile from my house) and went in for my hearing test. After the test, the audiologist helped me pick out what she thought was the best hearing aid for me and ordered them. She said they should be here in about 3 to 4 months a long time, because of the VA paperwork, I guess, but that beats the 4K-5K it would have otherwise cost. Yep, I know Costco is way cheaper, as their hearing aids are what I have now. I guess I will find out if there is any significant difference ....... not so much in the hearing aids, but the test that was administered and the fine tuning of the aids themselves.
Thanks everyone! Yes, the hearing aid business is pretty much a racket, as one of our local provider must spend a fortune on sending mailers to practically everyone over sixty. I can't tell you how many I received ......to the point of being a joke. I think his prices were in the $5,000 range.
My first (and only) HAs came from Costco so I have nothing to compare them too. I can say that the biggest difference to this point is the time and thoroughness that I spend with the audiologist ( a real doctor). The hearing specialists at Costco are, I think, trained pretty much on the job by their staff .... probably not certified (whatever that means). Suffice to say that the Dr. I went too seemed much more knowledgeable. And I had heard all along that people's experience at Costco depended on the audiologist they had at their local Costco. I guess I will find out ..... and report back!
No, it wasn’t. Literally cut off my ear to do the surgery. Had it done when I was younger too and probably having another in the next year sometime. Cholesteatoma is a benign tumor made of dead skin cells that recurs and eats away at the bone. My next surgery is to remove and reinforce the skull plate that is worn very thin from erosion. If left go, it can cause severe brain infection and death. The staff at the Michigan Ear Institute know me well.
Slammer!!!
