Tim,
This one's for you. Everybody who knows who Dave Van Ronk is, knows this tune in Dropped D....Jack p.s. I transcribed this one for Happy early on... p.s. Tim, Dave was an 1800 rated Chess player and I was rated at 1600 but Dave never beat me because He was always polluted by late eve. (so funny) and could never beat me that way. I took lessons for two years and Dave never had one lesson. He was very very sweet off the sauce but on it, He became so different....
When someone could fork his Queen and Rook in just over 6 moves, someone had to be polluted HA...... He used to tell Matt Umanov that I could never beat him and Matt couldn't have cared less (HA)....j

Wonderful tab and an even better story, Jack. Your tales from the 60s need to be captured for the rest of us and those that follow. Maybe consider recording some stories for us off the cuff. They do not need to be heavily edited or produced.
I have uploaded some clawhammer tab for "Green Green Rocky Road" that I wrote for a student at the Louisville Folk School. Now I need to work on your guitar tab. Dave Van Ronk recorded th song in the key of D. I tabbed the tune in the key of G to make it easier for my student.

Hi David,
Thanks so much for posting and doing this tune in Clawhammer. Well, here is at least one story of my adventures in NYC in the 60s. I left NYC because the rents got hiked after I returned to NYC after Covid had struck and now reside in Hampton NJ. I just happened to be in the right and fun place at the right time I guess. Dave actually was a great Chess player when he was off the sauce...Jack your tab, as always, is just great Dave....

Just had Elijah Wald visiting who was like an acolyte for Van Ronk. I knew Van Ronk only a little bit from the political side of his life and from being friends with one of his several former wives and companions.
Van Ronk had been a tenor banjo player int he Dixieland revival stage of things before coming over to kind of folk music and blues. It strikes me curious why he never played the banjo. Is there any recording of him playing banjo anywhere? I will ask Elijah next time I see him.
He is too much forgotten nowadays when you say his name people say "Who?"/
