When your banjo is doing everything you like as in playing easily, sounding big and full and getting complements measure every aspect from string distance over the 1st fret, neck relief @ 7,string height over the 12th and 22nd frets, string distance to the head right at the front of the bridge and the height above the head under the front of the tailpiece.

When you change the head it would help to either hear the head note or use the drum dial or some other way to put the new head exactly where the old one was.
Write these measurements on a piece of paper and keep it in the case pocket.

This is excellent advice. People should have this information at hand and why I tell people to get a drum dial. No need to debate that here, please, measure the head however you prefer. It's also worth mentioning that temperature and humidity affect the banjo more than people might be aware. I can have the sweetest tone coming from my banjo in my basement pub and the next day it's gone when playing in warm and sunny pub.

And also put the date you change your strings and what brand and gauge they are.
