People with neck troubles like mine favor a wide strap. But some wide straps don’t work with some banjos and won’t fit in some cases. What really matters is the width of the strap where it meets the shoulder and neck area. My old (45+ years plus) strap has a shoulder pad that works great. (See last picture). But it won’t fit in certain cases. Recently, I brought in a Goodtime II that had an interesting piece of case candy. It is a removable shoulder strap using Velcro. (See first and second pictures).
If someone wants to invent the next iPhone, what about combining the shoulder strap like in picture 1 with the removable feature of the other pad? Maybe leather tabs could go over the strap and secure with snaps, or Velcro like the Goodtime strap. This would allow thinner straps while providing the weight relief of a shoulder pad.

I had no idea. But yes, here is one, which is along the lines of what I was thinking with velcro. And here is one (large) that has the snap idea. Maybe there are no million dollar ideas left.
