The closest I'm finding on this is a Vega Style M, but I'm not sure that's right as the inlays are different. Can anyone give me ideas on what this is and what it's worth? It has some issues, like a missing inlay and some loose binding. I looked inside but didn't see any identification. It has a metal coordinator rod. Fairly nice engraving on the tension hoop and it has checkered binding.

Research: "stromberg voisinet".

It was made by Kay, the company that succeeded Stromberg-Voisinet.

Thanks for the replies. Any idea what model? And what are they generally worth? Are they considered okay banjos?

I'm not sure what model it is. Price range is usually $150 to $250, but this one is more ornate than some of the others I have seen so it might fetch a bit more.
They are usually regarded as beginner to intermediate instruments. The flanges on these sometimes disintegrate so that is something to watch out for. If the flange is solid, it is a decent playing instrument. I have seen numerous banjos of this quality that are still in good, playable shape after 90 or more years. I have also built a few five-string banjos with these pots when the flanges were solid. They held up well and were playable, but they are not collector's items.

Thanks for the information! I am thinking that it might be best to hold off on this banjo. It needs a lot of work and I think the seller (local shop) probably wants more than it's worth. He was convinced it's a Bacon and Day model. Either way, these tenor banjos come up for sale here and there and I think I can do better.
