Hello All,
For years I have had Amazing Slow Downer on my computer. I have used it exclusively for studying Scruggs Style banjo. However we had to replace my old computer and windows 10 with a new computer and windows 11. There is no way for me to transfer Amazing Slow Downer to my new computer, so I am having to make a choice to either sign up for Amazing Slow Downer again or go with Song Surgeon which I have never used.
I would appreciate any thoughts you have as well as any comments on the following questions I have.
1. Can I store as many songs on SS as I can on ASD?
2. Does SS showing the chord help you develop your ear or does it serve as a crutch so you don’t listen as hard?
3. How many segments can you break a song into on SS and can you keep those breaks stored like in ASD.
4. How tough is the learning curve on SS to gain good use?
5. How effective is the voice eliminator on SS in light of the fact that not that many classic Bluegrass recordings were done in tracks?
6. How effective is the eliminator and equalizer in allowing me to lighten everything but the banjo down so I can hear the banjo in back up better. I don’t think ASD is great at that and I would love to hear the backup more clearly. Especially the old Flatt and Scruggs and the Monroe stuff.
7. How easy is it to bring music in from I tunes in SS?
8. What are thoughts on getting the pro version over the other versions on SS?
9. Can you make a modified play list on SS and transfer it back to I Tunes so you can put it on a CD or I-pod?
I have looked this up in archives and have not found a great answer.
It is my understanding that I can have a 4 hour play session with SS before purchasing, but wanted to get some ideas ahead of utilizing that time in order to make full use of it.
Thanks for your time and thoughts,
Ken

I’m not sure why you can’t transfer Amazing Slow Downer. I just moved to a Windows 11 computer. I transferred it to my Windows 10 computer when I bought it. So this was my third installation.
I still had my activation code, so I just downloaded the new version from Roni Music to my Windows 11 computer and activated it via their process. I once lost my code and Roni Music provided it once I proved I had made the original purchase.
I’m not familiar with Song Surgeon, but if you still want to use ASD there is probably a way.

thanks for that information. Were you able to transfer the songs that were on it?

No. I'm just building a new list.
I did a little research. I was hoping there would be a file where they were stored but it seemed the info was embedded in the program. But I never contacted Roni Music. They might be able to help. They're pretty responsive. It just wasn't critical for me.
Moises couldn't be any easier and it's definitely worth $4/month.
A DAW like Reaper comes with a steep learning curve but it's the best DAW around for $60.
Try Moises for free and you'll see that it makes ASD and SS feel antiquated. If it's something you'll use regularly then cough up the $4/month and you'll never have to worry about switching computers/devices again.
Moises works great on a computer but it's even better on an iPad or your phone. It won't isolate banjo from guitar and mandolin very well but it's exceptional on vocals, bass, keys and drums. So if you're trying to learn Bluegrass tunes on banjo the first thing you want to do is remove the vocals and bass so you can hone in on the banjo. After that, slow it down and adjust the pitch or even change the key. It also identifies song sections and chords.
Hope that helps.

In theory if the music is embedded in the programs file folder, then you should be able to copy that folder (and it's sub-folders) to a usb drive and paste them to the same in the new computer.
another thought- if you still have the old machine, copy a song to it and look for the file/folder with current date tag in the ASD folder.

It may work for a while but likely you'll it a snag down the road when Microsoft pushes a service pack or your computer manufacturer pushes a firmware upgrade
