This is regarding ad: banjohangout.org/classified/113704 I bought this banjo about 10 years ago from a member, I believe this is mahogany. Any opinions? Thanks, John

Looks like mahogany to me. Exactly what type of mahogany from where in the world, I have no idea.

These cheap Asian factory banjos are usually mahogany of some sort.

NOT restricted to Asian instruments at all but very popular woods used for both mahogany looks and sound are African Khaya and Sapele with Sapele having wonderful ribbon effect, as in those rk banjo resonators. Both these woods are used extensively in high end American acoustic guitars. The MM banjo above is khaya
