Here is an old article from Banjo Newsletter that might be of some interest to some: Bill Keith did the interview. Bill was a major influence to my banjo playing; next to Earl Scruggs...

Nice!
However, I am still wondering how you met your Swedish wife?

Hi Jan from Me and from Ellen....I met Ellen teaching her banjo and She insisted I was not too old for her even though I'm pushing 80 now--Ellen is 66 and beautiful as Most Swedes are HA. Well, here we are married for 43 years and She still hasn't kicked me out...So that's how it began Jan....Happiest of Holidays...Jack

Its amazing how you learned to play left handed when you had already been playing righty. What a great article Jack.
Waiting on your memoirs......

Jack,

Did your wife learn to play the banjo, and if so, does she still play?

When I was giving lessons, I did it because I needed money. I was surprised to learn that it was also a good way to get girlfriends. Who knew?

No,
No more lessons. Just Marriage and Ellen is a Wildlife Biologist and is busy in NJ will be keeping the Forests and Marshes healthy...She's also a representative in NJ Politics--I don't fool with that myself......Jack

Jack,

In the interview, you said that you grew up near Baltimore. In those days, did you have an opportunity to encounter Earl Taylor and/or Walter Hensley?
