My internet and phone went out at the same moment early morning of Oct 19 while Consolidated was my provider. I kept getting a bill, but their financial trouble person found that they owe me $16.
Spectrum is coming down to hook me up to them, but it's going to involve a construction crew (I'm just under their 1000 foot limit) and their work could run into January.
To fill the interim I have my first cell phone which runs on a $35 Wal-Mart card.
So,with this phone I have unlimited long-distance calls, gmail and BHO and anywhere else.
Bought a $35 ONN speaker that sounds great.I just say "Play Billy Strings" and hang the beer can sized speaker on a nail over the pool table.
I get all that for $420 a year.
The only thing I'm missing is my Celtics and Sox.
If I can get a reasonable subscription on those I can open up around$350/mo.
I believe I can get a decent used truck for $350/month just by getting rid of directv and putting the internet on my phone.
Can I patch my phone into my 40" tv?
Steve, don't know about your TV and if it is a "Smart" TV, but my TV service Youtubetv works via my WiFi. Since my TV is a little older I had to buy a Firestick, which I think was about $30. If your TV is a problem, as you may know, you can but Smart TVs now very inexpensively. I have seen 42" and 55" TVs at Walmart for less than $300 or even less than $200.

Bob .... the Smart TV is much simpler than anything we have used. All that is required is that you have WiFi in your house. Nothing hardly to hook up. With Spectrum, in addition to it costing $100 more, we had three boxes ..... one for each TV.
I think what you maybe missing is that you can use your phone as a wifi hotspot. So if your tv can connect to wifi you are all set. Don't know what sort of phone you have but on my android I go to Settings/Connections/Mobile hotspot & tethering. That creates a wifi with the same name as you've given the phone and tells you what password to use.
