submitted for your viewing, um, pleasure? Post Malone halftime show
I suppose he was a record co. execs dream: "See, he is tatted up with a big grill doing hip-hop, but, but----he is Country, y'all!"

It's based on a National Lampoon cartoon [by Al Jaffee, I believe] from decades ago:
"News Photo Of The Week ... In keeping with our policy of presenting our readers with all the vital news in these troubled times, here is an exciting photo of a jackal retching."
I record all the NFL football games that are available on my cable TV service. Then, when I watch the games, I "fast forward" through the ads and the halftime. I can watch a three-hour broadcast in two hours. I was not aware of this halftime performance, but I'm certainly happy that I missed it.

I don't know when the last time I watched a half time show was. Why would I want to, when there are so many other [interesting?] things to do [washroom break, wash some dishes, make a sandwich, watch another channel, etc.]? And as a bonus, most of the analysis is pretty un-noteworthy, so it gets similar treatment.
Yesterday I thought I might kill some time by checking in on Oklahoma vs. ???? in NCAA football. I made it 'til the wagon got about 20 yards out of the tunnel and had it confirmed that the more hype there is, the less I [generally] want to see/hear something.
I think this "affliction" (?) started some time before I was getting to be "old people" ... I still haven't seen "Jaws." ![]()

its not that ,, its calling it something that it isn't. i mean i like zepplin, the who, hendrix, cream, skynyrd, allman and doobie bros as much now as i did then. but calling what they are performing now out of nashville country is not even close.

But Post Malone is not a country artist and he's not out of Nasville so I don't see the connection. He incorporates some countryish elements into a mixture of genres.
I’m 43 and not very impressed with him or his style of music. It’s very commonly themed like most of the other mainstream music today…and I don’t see much that stands out or is too terribly different from anybody else chasing big bucks in the music industry today.
Then again….once you’ve seen Jerry Reed play a show…it’s hard to be very impressed by many others. Not impossible…but difficult. :)
Sounds like pop radio country to me, but with a bit more edge and a little less six pack dirt road long drive pretty girl hard work cliche.
Props to him for singing it, rather than relying on heavy processing or lip syncing.
I guess for discussion: Which top-40 country artist should have played instead?
Processed vocals seem to be what the world wants these days, or at least, it's what is being served up. The image is much more important than any musical talent. I say the same for most of today's Country and Pop. I like real singers actually singing and musicians playing real instruments, instead of "beats", so I mostly listen to old stuff now, and fortunately we have a large treasure trove of great music left to discover. I do understand that most of the world disagrees with this old man's musical inclintions and Post Malone is one of the top selling artists in history. The opening of his new club in downtown Nashville drew one of the largest crowds ever, as big as the NFL draft, which was insane.
" .... image more important than any musical talent... " ????
Man I'm glad to hear that!! I wear bib overalls because I find them comfortable, but it appears that they could also add to my image. ![]()
[On second thought, do I have an image?? ... aside from some schmuck hammering away on a banjo.]
Did somebody actually say, or promote P.M. as a "country" act/performer in regards to the half-time show?
