I am fairly new to the instrument and just aquired an 80s dobro banjo. The tailpiece is broken, and when I shop for replacements, I can't seem to find one that would screw directly into the body of the guitar. It seems like all of the tailpieces I see hae a 90 degree bend that screw in to the tension hook. Any recommendations or advice? Thanks!
It is a standard Presto with the right angle bend removed and a hole placed at the apropriate place. It would have to be bent up to clear the cover plate which is why they tend to break. A prucha might take bending as they are made like the original prestos. A Kershner might be modified to work as it has an upward adjusrment feature
