My wife's car has a lingering issue. The negative post on the battery is a tad too small for the negative cable clamp. I have the clamp tighten as far as it can go, and after a few hundred miles of drives or less, the cable will ride up off the post and eventually separate.
I could cut off the clamp and replace it with a clamp with slightly smaller diameter clamp...
Or is something less bothersome I can do to keep the clamp from slipping off of the battery negative post? I am tired of chasing her down across town somewhere to jump the car or hammer to clamp back on.

We used to drive a nail in there to keep it tight. Or we’d wrap a piece of tin or copper around the post.

Take your handy dandy driver/drill and run a small, 1/2 long sheetmetal screw between the post and the clamp. It's a hack but it works. Eventually you'll probably have to replace the battery and the clamp.

There are circular shims that go over battery posts that can be purchased at any auto parts store made specifically for this particular issue.

Two or three roofing nails and tap them in lightly with a hammer.

My problem has been addressed, fixed, we shall see. If it were my car, nails or copper wrap would be just fine. Wife’s car, covering my arse, I choose to slip on a lead shim cup, then tighten the terminal very strongly.
Thanks, Brad
