Watching a British mystery, and one character says to another
"I thought you'd be bricking it."

What does that mean?

My GUESS would be
"Excreting a brick from a bodily orifice"

but what do I know, about what things mean, Over There?

It means fear. I know not the origin.

Your guess is absolutely correct Mike " I was so scared I s**t a brick !" or "I was bricking it !" = I was afraid.

Fwiw, my initial thought [guess?] was that it's a variation or shortened version of "goldbricking it."   sad

I'm familiar with the term meaning to render an electronics device useless. The device can be used as a paperweight or a doorstop. Like what you can use a brick for.

Since Mr. Kelly agrees with me, I'll agree with him.
Especially in the context of THAT specific scene, where the mean Boss has insisted on a QUICK solution, from a Detective Sgt two ranks lower, because the dead girl's dad is pals with The Commissioner.

He doesn't care if there is no REAL evidence against the suspect. Wants him ARRESTED and CHARGED, and they just let him walk out.
(Half the show later, they DO catch the REAL killer, and it wasn't him! Of course!!)

Thanks, everyone, for your answers.
