Well, I guess there is nothing stopping you from selling it for Russian rubles.
I'll take my chances with the US dollar

That's true and that is what I am doing ..... for now anyway. I don't like to tell people what to do with their stuff, but it seems to me selling now or keeping it are both good options ........ maybe even buying, but I'm not. Hope you got a bunch!
If speculating in gold then this a good time to take some profits. But a portion of the gold market is driven by fear, and many are hedging against Really Bad Things. The problem with gold or other "end of the world" assets is that you never know when to sell them, or if to sell them at all. They will have their highest market value right when everything seems to be about to fall apart. And, nobody knows how gold transactions would actually go down if things did fall apart. Whatcha gonna do with it? Take an Eagle coin to the grocery? Will there be a grocery? Will you and your gold survive the trip to the grocery? Trade a bar for a case of .22s? Will bitcoin have value when the grid goes down, and stays down? There are really no good answers for when things fall apart, so I don't bother investing for it or planning for it in any way.

All things to consider Bill-e. I never bought gold for any other reason than I just like to own some. I particularly like the old St. Gaudens $20 gold piece and the Indian $10 gold piece ..... just fun to look at and own. The new (starting in 1986) gold pieces are neat too, so I bought some when they first came out. If I sold any of mine I do not know what I would do with the money, so why not just keep them. It is definitely going to be interesting to see what precious metals do in the next year or two.
