I commenced on the job of filling in divots using ebony dust and thin CA glue. I normally use Painter Magic activator here but it is becoming harder to get. I purchased locally a s-pray can of activator and below is the result. It went instantly white.
I tried cleaning it off with acetone and was marginally successful.

Anyone have any idea why this happened?
One thing I noticed was the wording on the can ... "IPA-based. Activator for delicate plastics & sensitive substrates".

Perhaps this is not compatible for use with ebony wood or the CA glue I am using.

I have had different CA accelerators react differently to things I sprayed them on. The only time I have had the white effect is when I sprayed too much accelerator.

Thanks for the response Bob. I have just retested it and no matter how much ior little I spray or apply (I even have it in a small squeeze bottle), it still goes white upon drying. I guess that is not useful for working with woods.

Sometimes I just let it dry/cure on its own. I was joking with a friend the other day about that. We finally got quick curing glues but sometimes i think they're still too slow haha.

John Hall from Blues Creek Guitars told me once to let the CA sit for a minute, and it won't foam when you use accelerant. I never tried it, when working on ebony I let it air dry.

CA cures only in the presence of water vapor. On a dry day, I use warm breath as an accelerant.

This will fix the white blushing problem. It cures a bit slower.

I have done a search and that product is not available here in New Zealand. It really wouldn't be worth the cost given the exchange rate and the shipping cost. I have experimented with various things and found what works and what doesn't. I will stick (no pun intended) with what I know.

There are also folks that use isopropyl alcohol to cure CA since it has water in it. There are several YouTube videos about this.

Thanks for that. I did not consider it. Will do some testing.
