Back around the second half of the 1970's, I was TRYING to be a decent stepfather to Irene's 4 teenagers.
And I was informed that my own 6 yr old son's stepfather was being psychologically abusive. What I wanted to do, was swing in through his living room window like a Superhero, a punch his lights out, but, cooler heads prevailed, and THAT stepdad began living elsewhere.
But, I did work out some of my feelings, by writing a fantasy song, where a stepfather was a NICE guy. as nice a guy as I wished I knew how to be, and as nice a guy as ANY kid deserves.
If you're a step-parent, this one's for you.
Sing it whenever you want.
Some of us were lucky enough to get a kind, loving stepdad. I was one of those lucky ones. He and mother were married almost 20 years when he was killed in an auto accident. We were all grieving because we had lost a loved one. Didn't matter he was a stepdad, he raised me and loved and took care of me. More of a father to me than my biological one.
