As I’ve mentioned before I have amusia which makes it very difficult to tell tunes and rhythm as something I can remember or play by ear. I basically memorize every note as patterns and play from memory.
This makes me work at a song by converting it from a tab to a music score in conventional piano and learn the song from memory.
I tend to notice patterns in both math and comp sci and I have really started to see patterns that I enjoy in the sawmill or mountain minor songs that my teacher has. They are quite similar in the pattern and I really enjoy the way they play and are sort of “shaped” as a song when I practice and play. So far I have translated and worked with playing shady grove and brushy fork of John’s creek and have translated wild hog in the woods, pretty little dog and sail away ladies. It’s amazing the similarity between the way they drop down and come back up in the sheet music notes. I think this is my favorite set of patterns so far.
