Perhaps buy a nickel one and have it gold plated?
You might also look into home gold plating kits. I've watched several videos of people nickel and silver plating with battery- or low-voltage power. Thought about nickel plating some stainless steel washers then decided it was only worth it for the learning experience.
A gold tailpiece, on the other hand . . .
Can't help it....gotta' chime in.... It seems to me that gold plated parts have just about become items that NO ONE keeps or wants to keep in stock anymore. Like, they want you to order them and wait until they are able to get them; OR have them made or plated to order. Someone is going to step up at some point and start keeping those parts.... and they will basically corner the market!
I think the price of gold is the reason, 3,300 per ounce right now. Read it may hit 5,000 per ounce. If I owned a plating company I would try to stall any gold plating until the gold market flattened out and was holding somewhat steady. Why sell your gold at 3300 when it looks like you may get 5000 an ounce. Gold plating cost changes with the daily market price
