I don't usually like fiddle music, but that actually brought tears to my eyes. Of course, the National Anthem usually does. His playing was superb.

I don't think that I've ever seen Mr. Perlman live, but I have seen a few great - and merely "very good" - violinists, cellists, pianists, and others over the years at the two quasi-local symphonies.

Sometimes the soloist or orchestra is on, but I'm off. Sometimes it's the converse, or a mix of the three. But when they're on and my brain is attuned, it's absolute magic. More than once, tears have come to my eyes, whether at a live performance just a few days after 9/11 (nary a dry eye in the house), or a particularly moving rendition of Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, Pachelbel's Canon in D, one of Rachmaninoff's piano concertos, or other.

I've seen/heard the deaf percussionist Evelyn Glennie, and she was great.

Give me a good oboe, bassoon, cello, french horn, timpani, or violin. How they can ebb and swell and flow, raise and lower the pressure, pass movements and passages amongst themselves (take breaks). See the cymbals shake...

It's a powerful piece, even in the quiet moments (notably the intro with the french horn), so I suggest that you raise the volume.

Nice classical violin playing.
I would expect nothing less from Maestro Perlman.

I'm a condervatory graduated viola player and of course love everything Mr Perlman does (he loves to paly bluegrass fiddle as well) but for the US anthem Jimi Hendrix at woodstock is still my favorite!

I heard, but could hardly see, Perlman play the Beethoven concerto at Tanglewood many years ago.
Even though I was sitting on the lawn about 100 yards away I felt honored to be in the presence of true musical greatness.

When I saw the title of this thread, I wondered how Ken Perlman got invited to play the national anthem on clawhammer banjo. Oh, wait, he didn't.

Giants - 3 / Mets - 0 ..... I'm thinking maybe the Mets should have used him as a pinch-hitter.  wink
