I recently acquired -- here in Wales -- an old 5-string banjo ca. 1900. The tailpiece has a simple construction: a small plate thith five slotted studs (posts?) behind an open bar. Can anyone tell me the correct way to string nylgut strings on it. I tried to upload a photo of it on the website but wasn't sucsessful. I have added below a DropBox link to the image. Regards to all of view, -- Liam Fliuch.

You have what is called “the grip” tailpiece. It is strung like a Bacon “no knot” then the strings pass under the bar. Later versions, I believe, had you wrap the strings around the bar and you could do that on this one too.
