This is why we do not eat out as often as we may desire. Too often, the food served is mediocre, at best…in my area, even at “good” restaurants. My rant this time involves pork chops. A nice fancy-casual independent joint. While perusing the menu as we have often before here, we enjoyed a good glass of wine. I ordered the chops. Two thick cut, bonein chops, pan seared and dressed with a dark onion marmalade. They looked very appetizing! Unfortunately, they were nearly as hard as hockey pucks! Come on, modern pork is safe. This is not good cooking, IMO. But typical of inconsistent finer dining restaurants, argghhh. From now on, I will order pork chops like I order steaks. I will ask for medium rare to medium. If they agree, And when they are served well done I will have no problem sending them back, or not paying for them, or asking for an alternate selection. Is this unreasonable? Brad

Well Al, the hook has been set ... please continue.

==================================================================================================

As for dining out, not that the places we go to are particularly "bad," but it's been some time since we've patronized "good/finer dining" restaurants.  However I'm much more forgiving than is my wife.... she's been known to point out "greasy" in a greasy spoon!!   I'll typically comment that IF she want's it cooked like she'd do it at home, next time we can save a bit of doh-rey-me.

But. but, but there've been a couple of instances where I've asked my wife whether or not we should leave a tip ... along with the stipulation that it go into a fund to send the cook to cooking school.

Sorry, Brad ... can't help you with the "unreasonable" part.   wink

I don't think it's unreasonable to want food cooked the way you want it cooked. It doesn't matter whether it's a steak, pork or chicken, if it's overdone, it's not palatable and one shouldn't have to pay for bad food. Just don't make the mistake of eating most or all of it and then complaining. Complain after the first bite, maybe 2. If they refuse to make the order right, you might agree to pay for the drinks, but nothing else. Just my take on eating out, for what it's worth.

Brad, I feel your pain!!! Where we live there are few dining out options and Mrs. Slammer being a healthy eater , makes it more difficult to find places to suit her. I really can’t remember the last time we went out for a “nice” meal and had a great experience other than a good Mexican place in Cleveland.
In our travels we have a few regular places for lunch we stop at that are consistent and established for many years, but as far as fine dining in our area, I refuse to drop $100.00 - $130.00 for mediocre food that is not up to my standards or good food with tiny portions. Every time we’ve gone out I kick myself in da arse for spending money for mediocre when for half the price I could have whatever I want at home and probably get two meals out of it.
I don’t mind doing my own dishes to save $70.00 !!!
It always amazes me how much money people spend on dining out , and it’s usually the same ones that b**** they never have any money.
Hell, I can’t find a burger in our area for under $14.00-16.00 , not including fries , not to mention $6.00 for a beer and up to $12-14 for a cocktail.
Yes, it’s nice to be served every once in a while, but I just can’t justify it anymore, and no one should have to put up and pay for “pucked up chops!!!
Slammer!!!

Brad, was thinking of you today while at the butcher shop.
Two bone in Ribeye pork chops were 2 1/2 lbs. Total was $8.36
Freaking amazing and cooked to 138- 152 depending where you probed em. Used my homemade rib rub and I actually moaned out loud when I got a nice fatty juicy bite.
Better than most steaks , and my compliments to the oinker!!!
Slammer!!!
BTW, I couldn’t finish it

Those look great!
Take a bone in shoulder,  have butcher cut longways into about 1.5" + steaks.  Marinate, wipe, and grill to desired temp getting some char like you did. throw on a few plump pork sausages while you are at it.   Freeze pork steaks you don't cook.  Best over wood flames.  Good luck finding a butcher to cut through bones nowadays.  Brad
