Great interview, lots of fun, Interesting to hear that rescuing-blueprints -from-the-dumpster story right from Greg. The subplot that was skipped was the popularity of the Blackjack Rich and Taylor model and how Gibson somehow claimed that inlay back even though they had never used it when they had it. The golfing in the factory part was hilarious!

I called Greg when I was trying to buy a Gibson Custom shop banjo from a guy (contacted Doug Hutchens as well). Greg was just as friendly to a guy he never met as he seemed in this interview. He acted as though he had known me for years. With their help in sharing their knowledge with me I bought the banjo. I called Greg back and found out his coat size and sent him the pink sport coat and pick socks as a thank you for his help.
I finally met Greg at SPIGMA year before last. Great guy. You never knew what he was going to say or do. He was patient with me then as well.

I'm just beginning to understand that the reissue Granadas and 3s and 4s PRE-ceded the improved Scruggs model!
Here is Doug Hutchens's account of that: https://hawthorne.fastie.com/banjo/hutchens.php

I like the point in Doug's story, reiterated by Greg in his interview, that the first Scruggs banjo was not a bad copy of Earl's banjo. It was a very good copy of the poor copy Earl's banjo had become.
