I just finished my 18th banjo and wanted to share a couple of glamor shots.  This is a custom job for a local player who wanted me to emulate a night sky inlay pattern from one of Jason Romero's banjos.  I emailed Jason and he was gracious enough to give me permission to use the design.  I posted a little example of the sound here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DI18Fe1SC5Y/  This was both my first 11.5" rim and 25.5" scale, both of which I wound up really liking for both how it plays and how it feels.  It was also my first slot-head instrument, which was challenging, but really fun to make.

Here's the details:

  • 25.5" scale
  • 11.5" x 3" 3-ply rim
  • Walnut with Wenge rim cap and head stock
  • Streaky Ebony fret board with Evo-gold frets and a night sky inlay pattern (brass, steel, and pearl)
  • Brass tension hoop and Pisgah shoes, hooks, and tailpiece
  • Rolled brass bar tone ring
  • Waverly tuners
  • Goat hide head
  • Rudy-rod neck attachment (adjustable up and down by ~1/8")
