Often times I've encountered songs we wanted to add to our band play list, but in order to play a variation break or solo, different chords would be introduced in the song to make that possible.  This is a good example.  It's "Shady Grove".  Most traditionally this song's chords are:

Gxxx Fxxx Gxxx Gxxx Gxxx Fxxx Fxxx Gxxx

But to make the solo more interesting, I changed the chords:

Gxxx Dmxxx Gxxx Gxxx Gxxx Fxxx Fxxx Cxxx Cxxx

That is cool. Is there a schema what chords work best or how do you come up with this variations?
