This doesn’t show the dimension below the flange on the 1 pc. Fl. But that is driven by the flange itself because they come in different sizes . Correct?

That is correct, there are several different sizes for flanges. I typically wait until I have the flange on hand before I cut the rim to fit the flange.

Forgot to ask
My rim is out of square, so I’ll probably need the smallest flange to make sure it works . What the smallest flange recamended ? This is a 5/8 thick Kalamazoo rim . I plan on using a Archtop to flat top tone ring .

Prewar flange dimension is 10 13/16" inside diameter. Bow Tie flange is 10 11/16" inside diameter. I think Saga used to make a flange that has a 10 7/8" inside diameter. There are probably others.

I think I have enough room , the rim is 1/8 out of round . If I get off my butt , I have an idea how to do it with the router table . Thanks

Just checked my rim again . 10 7/8 on the small side 11 1 1/16 on big side . Where can get an 10 13/16 flange ? Any new ones that size ?

I believe the larger Recording King flange and the Prucha are 10 13/16".

On second thought, I think I’ll go with the 10 11/16 to make sure I have enough. Where can I get one ?
Thanks

There's no greater satisfaction than playing an instrument that you made with your own hands.

I plan on cutting for a one piece flange , but using an arch top to flat head ring . What is the dimension fro bottom of rim to flange cut ? Any other dimensions for what I’m doing would be helpful. So averall height of rim . Top of rim to flange cut , bottom of rim to flange cut . Thanks

From Stew Mac print for flathead ring. Archtop would be taller on top under the ring.

The dimensions are all on this Stew Mac diagram but I’m getting confused by mixing the flat top and arch top styles , what are the correct dimensions I need for the numbers on my small sketch on left side of the sheet
Thanks

The distance from where the ring skirt sits on the bead to the top of the rim is 3/8" on a flathead and 5/8" on an archtop. This makes total rim height 1/4" taller for an archtop rim. I hope that helps clarify.

Hey Vince! How you been ?

Seems to me that if your turning the rim for an arch top-to-flathead ring, then you size it for an arch top ring......isn't that the reason for having arch top to flathead tone rings ? smiley

The drawings do not show a one pc. flange rim with an archtop ring. The archtop rim in the drawings is a 2 pc flange cut and he is struggling with the measurement differences. If he adds 1/4" to the top, all else is good.

Ok so follow the flat top rim dimensions, just add 1/4 to top .
Thanks . This rim is out of round
Out of square, it’ll be a little work . If I can’t get an 10 13/16 flange to work I can go to the smaller one , can’t be sure till I start cutting it .
