I just got a Recording King RK-35 which came in a good hardshell case, but I'm looking for a sturdy gig bag with backpack straps so I can take my banjo places more easily. What do you recommend? I was recommended the RB Continental Voyager, but I don't know if I'm ready to shell out $250+tax for a case right now. Two others I've come across are the Access Stage One and Stage Three bags, priced at $76 and $180 repectively.
I'm very happy with the Gator case. It's more substantial than a gig bag, very lightweight, well padded with a big pocket on the outside and straps. sweetwater.com/store/detail/GL...ase-banjo
I'm partial to custom "made in USA" cases. I have a twenty years old Colorado Case that has served me well, zippers still works, no seams coming apart, etc., but they went out of business a few years ago. If I were to buy another gig bag, it would be from:

Yes you'll pay more, but they're hand made, and you're supporting a "local" manufacturer.
MusiciansFriend used to sell a rigid foam case -- "durafoam." I bought one over 10 years ago. Rigid like a hard case, but lighter. Fabric covered, zip close, and wearable with straps like a gig bag.
The one I received had "Guardian" tags even though I ordered the MusiciansFriend house brand. Gator made one, too.
If you can find something similar, it's a good option. I got mine for going to jams when I lived in NYC. Wire it on my back and took it on the subway.
For a couple years I used a Boulder Alpine gig bag to carry my banjo to jams where I have to walk a couple blocks or more from parking to the jam site. It worked fine, but I have been very careful. I have the Musicians Friend foam case; it's light, but very bulky, and mine wasn't a Gator model. A couple months ago I bought the Crossrock lightweight foam case, which is about the size of a regular case and has rigid foam, a nylon exterior, and backpack straps. I haven't put my banjo back in its Superior case since getting it.
The Boulder Alpine is about as good a gig bag as one can get under $100 including shipping to the US.
Boulder Alpine Deluxe Resonator Banjo Gig Bag Desert Sand
Desert Sand is the only color available anymore and I have them in stock. I also have the open back version.
