Saw an ad for a 1200 dollar Gold Tone Walnut banjo.
As I read the description it said it has a maple neck???
Not interested in another maple banjo. My dear conversion has a walnut (from Maine) neck to match the resonator veneer as per the original walnut tenor neck it had.

I have bought several fingerboards from Asia that were supposed to be rosewood only to find out they were walnut. It doesn't surprise me that a walnut Asian banjo is made of maple.

Looks more like walnut stained maple, than actual walnut to me.  The reverse grain is not something I am used to seeing in walnut.

Thank you kindly.

I believe you're right. That looks like stained maple to me, too.

Could it be that the specs are from GoldTone, but the advertising from Target, so info might not jive 100%?     In any event, it looks to me like the peghead* is "new and improved" (?).  IMNSHumbleO it surely is an improvement over what [I think it was Ken LeVan's description] was the "we're not even trying"  peghead.

* or was/is this peghead shape standard on the  OB line, but not the lesser (?) ones?

Inquiring minds want to know!!!   wink

Is it just this banjo?

It's straight grain maple OB-150. You might say it has a Walnut stain, described as "Vintage Walnut". My old RK-25R looks similar. I'm not clear if the GC/Target is a variant that is getting a Walnut reso jacket for some reason, but the necks are still maple so it would only be a minor cosmetic difference. MF says the resonator is 14" maple. I don't see a Walnut model on GT's own website.

Walnut Asian imports are uncommon but not unheard of. I don't know if Gold Tone really has any at all. I remember a Fender FB-59 model some years ago was supposedly Walnut.

This may be the case, as I was unable to find a walnut OB on the Gold Tone website.  The pictures from Target are close to the pictures of the OB-150 on the Gold Tone website (though not identical with respect to grain).  I think Owen got this, it is a Maple neck and resonator, with a dark stain, advertised incorrectly by Target.

Thank you kindly.
