I'm guessing he means coastal wind turbines with their feet in the water. Yes - we've got thousands of those... Just looked it up. 11,000 providing 30% of our power.

Owver in ze auld couwtry they didn’t think the old style ones would measure up so they built new ones.
“ 2,144 wind turbines are located on land (including inland waterways), while 462 are at sea.
Wind Power Production:
In 2020, these turbines generated enough electricity to power 5.6 million households (15.3 billion kWh), with 36% coming from offshore turbines and 64% from onshore turbines.
Future Goals:
The Netherlands aims to have wind power contribute to 50% of the country's electricity demand by 2030. ”

Nope...
Turbines under the water in currents.. that resemble wind turbines..
I can see that water flow might be a better source..

Like these ? I don't know how they keep them free of barnacles.

I just learned on the Banjohangout that barnacles dont adhere to moving objects as much as stationary ones!

See? That lobster thread WAS worth reading!

I'm sure whales and marine life love them.

Yes, your outboard motor can be barnacle-free for years, as long as it's only in the water while in use, yet leave it hanging in the saltwater just one weekend and OMG. Ask me how I know!

Almost as much as they love the reverse.  Powered "wind turbines" that push 7500 ships carrying billions of barrels of oil through the ocean every year.

Thank you kindly.

Lots of relentless power in ocean currents and in the rise and fall of the tides.
Salt water is corrosive, but stainless steel doesn't care.

Ideas in various ways of harnessing tidal power, has been around for a while. Not just tidal stream but barrage or lagoon type.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidal_power

Some places have a lot of lot of tidal energy, like the Bay of Fundy. As well as where I live, Cook inlet has estimated to be 80 terawatt-hours per year; and is being looked at for projects to utilize that.

Stainless steel never rusts.
Outboard motors in salt water were basically junk after 10 years.
When they (OMC,et al) changed to stainless they added decades to the life of the motor.
When we bought used outboards we'd go up country and buy one that had always lived in fresh water.

Not so,now.

Yeah we have a lot of those in the States, but we save up the water up, and call them Hydroelectric Dams. Forced water flow, not free water flow.
