I’ve run across a new friend with an open back and a Bluegrass model, complete with a resonator and Scruggs/Keith tuners. Looking for more info (production dates, history, value, etc.).

I know this is the place for such knowledge. :)

I think Bob Smakula would know just about all there is to know about them, wouldn’t he?

No doubt! I’m interested in what players and collectors - those in the field with hands-on experience - have learned.

I apologize for not knowing how to post pics in here anymore. If you RIGHT click the link and open it in a new window, you can see each pic (one at a time).

Interesting:

Is there a serial number plate on either?

The openback rim doesn’t look like a Goose to me, but it hard to tell from the photos.

I don’t know what to make of the bluegrass banjo.

Both necks look good to me.

I used to go to Friday night jams at Goose acres back in 1980. I also had them put 5th string pegs done by them.

Love that bluegrass one. I owned a resonator model that was much more plain.

Approximately 350 banjos were made in total, including conversion necks. Bob has the serial number records.

IF I am not mistaken, the fellow who had or ran goose acres music was/is actually Bob Smakula's father.... so of course Bob may be able to give much information about goose acres instruments.

I love my Goose Acres T12M (open-back, 12-inch hoop), made in 1994. I picked it up on eBay a few years ago and it turned out to be a very lucky purchase!
