Not just because Bill Monroe had one in the original band, but because of guys like this:

Why didn't Bill Monroe continue with an accordion in the band????
On the other hand, accordion is very common in "old-time" Swedish music, so I am used to listen to it. https://youtu.be/egCyzHlt6U0?list=PLEBBDB7012B5A9EDA

Originally posted by banjowannabeA friend of mine who plays accordion thought we should take my banjo-playing ability, find some bagpipe player, and form a band called The Buzzkills. We could hire ourselves out to do a set at closing time in bars. Unfortunately the band name was taken, and so we abandoned the idea.
I know some hurdy-gurdy players who would fit right in.

..someone said that sentence, now who was that?
Duke Ellington I think :-)
I have played with accordions at a few jams. If the operator can play well it can sound great. The only problem I've noticed is volume control. Maybe some of the electronic ones have a volume control but I have not seen a traditional model with one. The last one I remember was played by a lady who used a lot of short bursts to control the volume but it only made it worse.
I do not play bluegrass but I often play Banjo with my wife who plays accordion
That's an interesting thought, considering every music group representing Latin music from south of the border absolutely has to include an accordion (and a few cowboy hats) in their bands. Reminds me of the days that you never, ever, ever had a country music group that didn't have a steel guitar...
Have you seen one lately?
