Try flying with a string bass if you want an object lesson in futility. Last time my band flew to the UK for gigs, we bought the bass a seat in first class!
I sure am glad I don't fly anymore.

i feel your pain.... we only did it once and that was enough... my wife played bass and i played banjo in our group... land transport was bad enough,, esp when we had to supply the sound system too. i don't miss those days at all.
I was hoping to try this, but flying to Detroit round trip would have been $500 for Southwest with priority boarding, vs $150 for Spirit with a checked bag added. If I needed to have the banjo I would have paid for Southwest but it's staying home this time!
