The New York Times now claims that they were "misled." Lab leak now most likely. Officials lied, or looked the other way and stayed silent while others lied for their profession. "The Science" was a lie, but we were supposed to trust it. Oh, so many experts were "misled." Wear the mask! The holy mask! Social distance! Close the playgrounds and the beaches. Arrest the hiker far from civilization. Fire those who won't spread the lie. Let your grandparents die alone in a nursing home, right. Destroy your children's education, destroy the (once booming) economy, empower petty tyrants to rule our lives, hey no big deal, what's done is done, right? We may never get over this. What was destroyed had great value and we have lost much.

We need a Truth Commission and some "experts" need to face prison. And a whole bunch of people are going to have to face that they were willing accomplices to one of the great crimes of history. We need the new pharmaceutical billionaires in chains! We need the Covid Tyrants to never be in power again. And, we need a population that is not composed of those so willing to be sheep!

Lab leak? Where, Bill? I believe in vaccines,, although I admit I haven’t delved into the story behind the story behind the curtain, etc. Cite source please. (does the average person on the street have time in their busy lives to dig deep into these back stories. It takes hours,, apparently years to get to the truth. I wouldn't tar everyone withe same "sheep brush")

If it was a lab leak, how did that influence the response by health officials? Whatever the source of the virus, was the response was perhaps an error on the side of caution? Or not?

Okay folks, let's be careful here. We banned any threads about covid a couple of years ago. Let's not get the controversy going again or this topic will be locked.

Keep it civil, please.

It's easy to find any kind of direction in what people say or write.
I pay no attention to conspiracy theories.
I think it best to trust my own common sense and knowledge of human nature.

Sherry, I was hoping that five years later, and with authorities like the NYT beginning to say "whoops" that perhaps we could do the same.

The number of cases and deaths were -- and continue to be -- real.

In health statistics, there's such as "excess mortality": The number of people who die in a given year beyond the number that would have been statisitcally expected. Over 1.2 million people in the U.S. died from COVID.

I'm not going to say there wasn't conflicting and changing information and guidance early on. It took a while for the virus and disease to be understood. For example, that transmission was through air and not surfaces.

I believe some of the early messaging about masks -- not encouraging use -- was to be sure first responders and healthcare workers had all of the protective gear they needed. Does no good to mandate use of items that aren't available. When production of masks was sufficient for demand, masks were required.

In hindsight, maybe it would have been better for Dr. Fauci and even our President to say to the American people "Masks are in short supply, so please let our brave and important first responders, doctors, nurses and technicians have primary access to the equipment they need to keep them safe." But I think Americans as a whole can no longer be counted on to make personal sacrifice for the common good.

Well that's completely reactionary OTT. In the beginning no one really knew what was happening except quite a few people were dying. At that point the logical step is a precautionary principle. Hindsight is a wonderful thing for the OTT brigade.

I just don't understand.

Someone starts a thread with capitals in the title.

Taking something out of context, blaring away, shouting simplifications, etc.

And people (rightfully) correcting this (within the rules) should be careful?

Why, in the first place, is a thread starter not corrected by the mods for dumping this type of truth twisting inuendo garbage on the BHO?

It's always the well thinking, good willing that are being curbed afterwards.

As well as religion soaked reactions to otherwise perfectly straight threads, that are left alone....

But any counter reaction immediately causing a lock.

There is something not right about that.

Well I would think that "truth-twisting inuendo garbage" might be over the politeness line, but I suppose that because the source is "the well thinking, good willing" Bruno then it's all good. I mean, you know, he's all well thinking and good willing and all, and dang, I got nothin' after that!

Don't mistake truth twisting for actual truth. I've been screaming this from the rooftops for four years! Just keep watching.  There wii be a reckoning.

They had these same controversies in 1917 and even screwed up the name of that flu based on bias. They were also doing similar experiments to understand the nature of the virus et al...just maybe not with crisper machines. They still have the 1917 virus locked in a cage....why?

Point is living in the past isnt constructive but learning from it and acting on it is constructive. The fact that scientists are screwing with and manipulation genes and trigger mechanisms is not new but a fact. My opinion is this research should be limited to knowledge and cures and not reconstruction and hybridization.

By the way, I don't believe for one second the author's assertion that they were lied to. NYT was a willing participant in all the lies that were peddled to the American people. This article is nothing more than an effort to CYA because they are about to have no choice.

The NYT denied the lab leak theory, and accused anyone mentioning that as a possibility as "racist." They vilified many as "conspiracy theorists" yet yesterday quietly admitted that they had been wrong about everything. Well sorry, that is not enough! How about a big public front page "We Were Wrong!" followed by firing all those opinion writers who destroyed careers and lives?
They are/were a NEWSpaper. They should have been the first to be asking questions, yet they never asked a single thing. They fell all over themselves to become a propaganda machine. The "Paper of Record" is now a sad joke. And they do this in a passive voice: "We were misled", when the truth is that they actively misled millions.

I won't post a link, the article is easy to find but it is behind a paywall.
