Bought from individual in 1974 and have played her to pieces over the years. Original owner told me it is a 1952 RB 250. Have had no luck confirming serial number from online info. Bow tie, square peg head. Number stamped in rim is 8216 then a space followed by 51. I know the armrest is an old 5 star, 5th peg isn’t original nor is the tailpiece. Any info? Thanks!

Looking at the banjophiles number list referenced in another thread, it appears to fall in the 1958 range. Sorry, should have researched more before posting. Thanks!

1958 sounds feasible. Gibson did not start making the RB250 until 1954.

For a 1958 its more usual for the serial # in the rim to start with "8" then a " - " then a longer serial number. Not the format you put in your original post.

Gibson also used your first 4 digits 8216 on GB - 1s (Guitar-Banjo) in 1926.  For what that's worth.

But one can never say never with Gibson.
