Hi, this is a really heartbreaking post to write but it’ll put my heart at ease a little if I can get enough of a response.
I've been forced to leave the country for political reasons (I am an anarchist and a primalist, and I was forced out around six months ago due to governmental interference and lack of oversight response--it's a VERY long story and more one for an action adventure remake than a psych ward, I assure you).
I don't want people to worry about the why so much as the what, however. In essence I may be looking at getting evicted while I'm unable to reclaim any of my property, and the property is in large part a collection of cultural and historical artifacts that I just treasure way way more than their collective value, and I'm terrified that it's going to get swept into a dumpster at the end of this or next month along with all the plans I'd had as an American citizen--but again, long story.
I'd like to find someone with the means and qualifications to preserve and steward some important parts of the collection if need be. This would probably mean someone who understands that it's a lot EASIER to find an entire prewar Gibson pot than it is to find just one nut and bolt for a 1902 Centurion Cello Banjitar Limited (or whatever), and can treat the parts bin materials with the same level of preservative care as the rest of the workshop. That's actually one of my primary concerns.
Otherwise there are important artifacts in the realm of lutherie in general and banjos in particular. Besides a few Whyte Laydie and Tubaphone projects, including an original 5 string long neck waiting for restoration (I myself am a Vega freak and mostly focused on the upper-mid tier for players grade instruments) there are a good number of rare diameter heads, nuts, bolts, pots, hardwares, etc. from various provinces that could benefit from categorization and preservation by someone dedicated to the art.
The whole enterprise of gathering and preserving the rare materials in this shop would more than pay for itself--it's more of a matter of time, space, and proven dedication to the art that I'm worried about.
I may or may not be able to line up local sources to care for the violin family artifacts and woodworking tools which are respectively stored there, and it's a matter of specific interest whether an interested party be involved in the care of those things but...
In any case I wanted to vet any willing volunteers who may be able to ACTUALLY and RELIABLY travel to Southern Oregon in order to save some extremely valuable items from American cultural heritage from going to the dump or being pilfered by vultures or what have you. The collection represents a lifelong dedication and an incredibly concentrated cultural resource for anyone serious about the preservation and/or restoration of vintage American (mostly) instruments (banjos mostly).
If you have a shop, a practice, and an interest, and can afford to rescue and preserve culturally significant instruments and materials as a matter of last resort, please reach out with a preliminary description of your qualifications and we can go from there.
I ask that people refrain from criticism and skepticism please. Just focus on the banjos that may end up in a dumpster and and the fact that I don't want any important, irreplaceable cultural material to be lost forever. Let's figure something out collectively.
Thanks for reading, I hope everyone is faring well.

Are you looking for a preservationist or are you looking to sell it all for 40k while admiting you no longer can vouch for the condition of your shop as you've seemingly left it... unattendended for a prolonged period of time?
As a hard core anarchist, how does your perception of property align with a monetary sale? Can I just show up and take what I want for free?

This is also revealing: A little more context for that last video..
I wish Cody the best of luck.

Well I was nervous to check back on this thread. I know how people must be feeling right now and I know in this situation it’s easier to believe that I’m just trying to be dramatic or whatever, but unfortunately it’s not that simple.
I really genuinely care about the things in my shop that relate to banjo restoration—some I know are irreplaceable or at least exceedingly difficult to find. It’s a niche. I wish that I could offer more reassurance than the fact that I’m willing to give away some very valuable items that my situation is not as simple as it may appear. Unfortunately I’m not at liberty to give a ton of detail other than that, along with my heartfelt understanding that people will have varied perceptions, seriously. I get it.
The situation with the shop is still developing, and any firm indications that I’m not planning on returning may put me at risk right now, so just stay tuned. I don’t know what’s going to happen.

I really can't talk about it.
