Here is the Classic version by Sonny Osborne—After J. D. played it of course....Jack
Sunny Side Of The Mountain
Thank you Jack. Another great job and contribution to the banjo community. But, it got me to thinking about several questions to ask you if you don’t mind.
First, how did you tab this out? How long does it take for you to tab something like this? Has technology changed the way you tabbed? What prompted you to tab all these different songs?
You have tabbed a good deal of Earl, Sonny, and J.D. and studied them so deeply: do you see any patterns or characteristics in each that differentiate them from each other so that when you are tabbing you say “here they go again”?
You have been in this a lot of years and obviously with some serious intensity: do you still tab? And if so, what prompts you to tab?
How much do you still play?
Just wondering.
Thanks,
Ken
Hi Ken,
I'm a Guitar and Banjo Teacher and I create these tabs so students can hear what the song sounds like via an accurate Midi....No other reason really. I put them on BHO to help contribute to the site. I tab them by simply listening to a song over and over and then write it down by hand and then to Tabledit. It is mostly a matter of hours and hours of listening to every single note played in a song—as long as I keep teaching, I'll keep tabbing new material...Jack p.s. I also played in professional Bluegrass bands for many years and met many of the well known players and asked them how they played a particular lick or phrase...

Hi Jack,
I knew you were a pro and remember you picture on the copy of BNL, on the cover of Pete Wernick's great book and the very unique store you had in NYC. I was just wondering if technology or your experiences had changed how you work. I any case...Thanks.

Hi Ken,
Sure, Tabledit helped me tremendously in that I could erase any things I had written and changed my mind about....Technology had a lot to do with my advertising for my Website more than anything. It did take hundreds hundreds of hours to convert all of my paper tabs to Tabledit...Jack
