Phillip ..... not really sure what you are getting at.  Sure there are a lot of factors in hiring and maintaining a workforce, but workers here are free to come and go and seek alternate employment.  There are plenty of jobs available.  As you probably know, we have a minimum wage, but no one now works for minimum wage.  Most people in my area start at almost double that.

I own a roofing\framing business. I start my employees at 22 per hour and by year 5 they are at 30...(currently, for roofers), 35 for framers, 60 for electricians. My best emloyees are made crew chiefs at 50 an hour or salespeople at 35 plus 20% commission. In an area that pays 12 to 18 per hour for construction legal labor and 4 to 8 for illegal labor.

I have zero turn over to competitors but do lose quite a few to much lower paying jobs that are less physically demanding, like Walmart or Home Depot. I hire no one who isnt legal to hire but many of my competitors do and pay them slave wages. Luckily, there is way more work than all of us can handle.

For demo work I hire local teenagers and non skilled part timers at 15 per hour. I have a huge list of teenagers that call for work.

Well, you make it sound that, because there is an unregulated labour market, workers will get paid a lot. But there are many reasons why a labour market may be dysfunctional and lead to exploitation of the work force. Just think of the times of Oliver Twist. 

If nobody works for the minimum wage, that may be because the minimum wage is just too low to make a living. If there was no minimum wage, workers would earn infinitely more than minimum wage (because minimum wage would be work for no compensation). How great would that be? ;)

As mentioned above, there are historic examples that a completely unregulated labour market does not work. I have yet to learn about a civilised country where a completely unregulated labour market does work.

Minimum wage isn't intended for people to make a living.  It's for seasonal work or entry level for people of little skills to get started in the job market, typically while still living in their parents house.

Any minimum wage law means that many low-skilled or people with disabilities or those with little education will become unemployable. If the people of a country or their govt. want a minimum wage then they should be prepared to pay it, because a business is not a social program. Let the govt. pay a supplemental income for every hour worked? Or expand the Earned Income Credit, or other possibilities. I don't like that at all but you cannot change reality and the reality is that some individuals do not bring value that matches even the low minimum wage that we have. To freeze those people out of the workplace and deny them the opportunity to learn the skills which would increase their value is tragic.
