Hi there,
I've been googling, but can't find useful video examples of OT banjo and mountain dulcimer combos.
Does anyone have any links and/or suggestions of OT tunes and songs that suit the two instruments played together?
Ditto fiddle and dulcimer.
Maybe they don't fit that well owing to the diatonic nature of the dulcimer. Not sure at all, but feel that I should be!
Thanks,
D
Here's a fairly recent video of fiddle and dulcimer. Fine playing from both.

Of course, banjo & dulcimer can play together. If you can't find any videos, then do it yourself. There's no such thing as instruments that cannot accompany each other. If you find a Dulcimer player, take the time to find a song, & work out a mutual musical arrangement.
(BTW, Dulcimers should never be on walls !)

Sound advice. Agree about dulcimers on walls. They're more instrument than ornament, despite being beautiful.

No more than banjo is all about the key of G! Different tunings and a capo get you far.
I couldn't find examples of banjo and dulcimer combos online is all. Was googling in the wrong place, obvs.
I play in a jam that includes several dulcimers. Here we are several years ago; I think there were four dulcimers in this video (I'm in the striped blue shirt; dulcimers are to my right). Not as many of us now, due to some moving on, but we're still playing.

And then there's the Banjammer, by my next-door neighbor, Mike Clemmer (in the video above, the older guy in the back, with the beard, is playing one) :

Well Debbers you are on the BANJO hangout after all! After my brief experience with the dulcimer I was pointing out a good reason why you weren't finding what you were looking for. Tried it, wasn't really the right persuasion for me but I don't knock anyone else who enjoys playing it. As for me, it will remain on my wall with other instruments I have collected but don't play.

Here are a few examples I've done featuring a mountain banjo and dulcimer, and one with banjo and guitar accompaniment:
