Recently had a ‘51 J-45 worked on (neck set, refret, bridge reglue, nine top braces reglued) and was curious if any of y’all have used this tone generator device to “open up” an acoustic guitar?
Thanks,
Brian

I used the DIY version which is an aquarium pump wrapped in cotton cloth. It vibrates at a low albeit constant frequency. I arranged it against the tops of my guitars when new and let it sit for two to three days. I’d like to think there is a difference - but it depends a lot on the guitar, the improvements are minor, and it’s not possible to say if the same result would have been obtained without the treatment.

But it won’t hurt the guitar, and if YOU think it sounds better you’ll want to play the guitar more which is the important bit.

I loaned my Tone Traveler to a friend who used it on his cedar topped Seagull. According to him it really opened up the sound, even though that guitar had been played a lot. If your '51 martin has been sitting in a case for a long time it might help. But, if it has been played regularly, you might not get much benefit.
